Journal of Critical Limb Ischemia Achieves Indexing in Embase, Elsevier’s Leading Biomedical and Pharmacological Database

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The CLI Global Society (CLIGS) today announced that its official publication, the Journal of Critical Limb Ischemia (JCLI), has been accepted for indexing in Embase, one of the world’s most comprehensive biomedical and pharmacological abstract and indexing databases, published by Elsevier.

The addition follows JCLI’s indexing in Scopus in 2023 and marks the second major indexing milestone for the journal in three years, extending the discoverability of CLI-focused research to the researchers, clinicians, and health-industry professionals in more than 90 countries who rely on Embase for literature searches, systematic reviews, and drug and device safety surveillance.

“Embase indexing is a meaningful vote of confidence in the rigor of the peer review our editorial board and reviewers bring to every issue,” said Barry T. Katzen, MD, President of the CLI Global Society. “It means the research our authors are publishing on limb preservation and amputation prevention will now reach a far wider global audience of the clinicians and researchers working every day to save limbs and lives.”

Launched in March 2021, JCLI is the first and only academic journal focused exclusively on the endovascular, surgical, and multidisciplinary management of critical limb ischemia (CLI) and chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). The journal publishes original research, clinical reviews, and case studies that undergo multiple rounds of independent peer review before appearing in print, and is provided free of charge to CLIGS members as part of the Society’s broader commitment to open, accessible CLI education.

“Embase indexing is a significant step in extending JCLI’s reach into the international research and clinical community,” said Jos C. van den Berg, MD, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Critical Limb Ischemia. “Following Scopus indexing in 2023, this milestone tells authors around the world that publishing with JCLI puts their work in front of the databases that matter most. We’re grateful to every author, reviewer, and editorial board member who helped us earn it, and we encourage researchers across vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, podiatry, and wound care to consider JCLI for their next submission.”

The Society is continuing to pursue indexing in PubMed/MEDLINE as its next milestone, building on the foundation established by Scopus and Embase.
